FRENCH SECOND LANGUAGE
French is a gift that we can give our children. We believe that a child's ability to learn a language differs from one to another. If your child is struggling with French, don’t give up. Some take a little longer than others and that is ok. We at L’AMI Learning understand these differences and will meet your child at their own learning level.
We love to create real life learning and practice experiences to help your child learn to speak French confidently - whether in school or in the community. We love to get students up and moving!!
Getting Started - L’AMI Learning tutors start by helping students with identifying common and some complex sounds in a variety of different settings - including games, videos, reading and more. This helps sounds become second nature to them and this in turn improves their proficiency at reading and writing.
Vocabulary building - We live in a region where French is a minority and consequently students are not using French in the community. L’AMI tutors enforce speaking only in French and this practice helps build vocabulary and confidence. L’AMI tutors give them the necessary vocabulary through games, stories and oral practice to help with their reading and writing. This is VERY IMPORTANT to us. We know that if the students have the vocabulary they will succeed.
Writing - FI students have a lot of frustration with writing because they lack the vocabulary and sounds to express their thoughts. We teach our students to use resources to them how to overcome these obstacles by showing them how to use the dictionary/online sites to find words that they do not know.·

Reading comprehension - we teach them how to interrupt meaning in texts. We give them the skills to know what to do when they face difficult words.· We teach students reading comprehension strategies (re-read the text, activate prior knowledge, use context clues, infer meaning, think aloud, locate key words, make predictions, use word attack strategies, visualize etc.)

We at L’AMI learning know that every child struggles with reading at some points for a variety of reasons. We take the time to understand and figure out exactly what your child's challenges are in reading.
We teach students reading comprehension strategies (re-read the text, activiate prior knowledge,use context clues, infer meaning,think aloud,locate key words,make predictions, use word attack strategies, visulaize ect.)
Many students struggle with reading because they lack fluidity with their sight words. We help them understand that words on the page have meaning.

Writing is a challenge for many students. L’AMI Learning'd will teach your child to break down their writing assignment into smaller components. They will give them tools to transform ideas into the written word and with practice, follow the process with confidence.
L’ami Learning uses the six traits of writing and to relieve them from feeling overwhelmed by writing challenges and teach them how to succeed with their writing.
L’ami tutors use everyday experiences to encourage writing which makes writing fun and relatable to the student.
Our tutors use charts to organize the writing process so the students does not become overwhelmed .
Students will also learn how to use technology to create assignments, walking them through how to research a topic, find information, put it in an outline and transform it into clearly written text.

Understanding that words are made up of sequences of individual sounds, (phonmens) is fundamental in learning to decode, or "sound out" individual words.
Blending and segmenting are other important skills that students need to develop in order to read and write.
Our tutors will help students enhance their sentence structure through special activities & games.
Spelling is difficult for many students. Our tutors at L’AMI learning love to have you UP AND MOVING so we teach spelling in a fun and interactive way.
